What weekend?

I'm going to need someone to swear on a Bible, sign an affidavit, cross their heart and pinky swear that we had a weekend because, I didn't see one.
My oldest plays for his school's soccer team and they have 2 Saturday games this season. This past weekend was one of them. The rain of last week finally stopped so it was a beautiful day for it. Unfortunately, as things go with my husband's job, he had to work so I was solo with the kids.
The afternoon was fun, but long, as we were there an hour before the game for warmups, the game itself was almost an hour and a half, and it was 30 minutes to and from where they played. It was almost 2:30 by the time we got home and the only productive thing I had done prior to his game was run and grab our grocery pick up order.

The rest of Saturday was a blur. Sitting here thinking about it, I have no clear idea of what we did after that. There was some outside time, I ate something, the kids ate something, my husband got home from work around 5...I think...there was the rest of an Ocean documentary on Disney that we finished, and I have absolutely no idea what we had for dinner. Which, in and of itself, should tell you how I feel about what our Saturday was.
Sunday was just as chaotic. A lot of the same things; we got up, we ate some food, we did some things, we spent time outside, blah blah blah. BUT, in addition to posting my blog consistently every week, I also told myself I would add Self-Care Saturday/Sunday where I would take some time out of the day to do things for myself. It didn't happen until after my 2- and 6-year-old were in bed Sunday night, but it happened. I took an hour and focused on some self-care.

First up: shower scrub. I had gotten this shower scrub/body lotion set as a Christmas gift and I had yet to try it, so it was the perfect start. I jumped in the shower and used the scrub and an exfoliating glove, and my skin felt so dang tingly and healthy when I was done it was AH-mazing. After the shower I used the firming lotion.

Both the scrub and the lotion smelled delicious, and my skin drank that lotion UP. If my skin could make noise, it would have definitely made gulping sounds. And while I'm sure the 'firming' aspect of the lotion takes more than one application; my skin was feeling lighter and fresher after just one use. Plus, I smelled like heaven walking, so there's that.

Next up on the self-care schedule was a mani. I love, love, love having my nails done. For some reason, having manicured nails just makes me feel 'together' every day. Even if I don't get a shower in, my hair is in a messy bun and I'm wearing leggings for the 6th day in a row, if my nails are manicured, I'm good. However, the cost of manicures can add up when you get them done professionally and consistently. When we moved to Yuma, AZ in 2018, I knew I wouldn't be working at least my first year there, so I bought what I needed to do at home gel manicures. I researched some good polishes that wouldn't chip or peel within days, bought an LED lamp, and I've been doing my nails since. Doing them right takes about 30-40 minutes, but it's time well spent, and the polish will last close to two weeks (unless I'm super hard on my hands over that time).
My final self-care Sunday step was a face mask. I'll usually add two or three masks to my grocery pickup order once a month, so I have them on hand. I tend to use them more regularly during the summer when the sun and heat just make my face feel like sandpaper, but I know the dry winter air can be just as harsh. I went with a face mask from New Zealand that was a 10-minute mask. I tried to get a picture of my husband's reaction to my face when I walked up to him, but I missed it. He looked at me, chuckled, and said, "Not saying a word." LOL. Didn't matter. The mask was lace, so even though I looked like I just through one of my grandma's doilies on my face, it was cool and refreshing.
All-in-all, my self-care lasted about an hour and a half. Shower, mani, face mask. Doing my self-care at night was nice because the kids were all in bed towards the end and my husband and I were able to just sit in the silence. The unfolded laundry sitting on the couch didn't even bother me. Tomorrow is soon enough for that mess.

I'm sitting here, Monday morning, finishing my blog post for the second Monday in a row and I'm happy because my nails are painted, my face feels fresh, and I keep smelling my arms because that scrub and lotion seriously does smell wonderful. If you haven't, take some time for YOU. You're worth it! Now I guess I'll go get my toddler out of her crib and get this week started.
